Flaine is one of the easiest resorts
to reach by car, just 40 miles from Geneva along the A40 plus an
easy 17 mile climb from Cluses. At its modest altitude of 1600 metres,
Flaine has a better snow record than any comparable resort in Europe.
This purpose-built ski village has virtually guaranteed snow cover
from mid-December until after Easter.

Flaine is the focal point of the Grand Massif, Frances fourth biggest ski
area with 72 lifts spread between its own contained bowls and the three
lower and more traditional villages of Samoens, Morillon and Les Carroz.
A long piste also takes you down to the charming village of Sixt.
Although good for skiing, nightlife is limited and the resort suffers from
a general lack of charm. Two enclosed people-mover lifts operate day and
night between Flaine Fort and Flaine Forum the higher and lower villages.
The separate Hameau de Flaine, an attractive development of Scandinavian-style
chalets, is served by a free bus, which runs every 15 to 30 minutes until
midnight to Flaine Forum, where most of the shops and restaurants and the
ski school meeting-place are located.
Number of lifts:72: 6 gondolas, 28 chairlifts, 38 draglifts
Pistes and Trails: 265km in Le Grand Massif (12% easy,
42% intermediate, 37% difficult, 9% very difficult)
Lift pass: Grand Massif (covers Les Carroz, Flaine, Morillon,
Samons, Sixt) 160 for 6 days.
Access:
The resort is only 95km (59 miles) from Geneva Airport. Coaches run at the
weekend from Geneva, which is also reached in three and a half hours by
TGV from Paris (Geneva rail station is only 70km - 43 miles away).
The TGV runs to Cluses, the nearest rail station to Flaine, in four and
a half hours. Cluses is 17 miles away. A third choice is the
local airport at Annecy, 80km (50 miles) from Flaine. A bus service
runs from the town or you can take a connecting train to Cluses. There
is a bus service via les Carroz from Cluses to rail station to Flaine.
Drivers should take the motorway for Chamonix and take the Cluse-Centre
exit. Then follow signs for Sallanches on the N205. Take a left
turn on to the sign posted CD106 Flaine road - chains should be carried
in case of snowfall. The drive from Calais takes about 8 hours without counting
stops.
Flaine is car free and cars must be parked in the resorts car parks except
when loading and unloading. Car parks with 1500 spaces with or without
video surveillance are available. Parking charges are in line with
those of international airports. A free shuttle bus runs around the outskirts
of the resort (although most facilities can be reached on foot) and links
up to the Hameau de Flaine.
