25 miles east of Innsbruck, amongst fairytale
scenery on the shores of Lake Achen, Maurach is a lovely little village
with its own small ski area. Together with the other lakeside villages of
Achenkirch and Pertisau there is 50 km of skiing, especially good for beginners
and second-timers. Cross country skiing is well-catered for, with 70 km
of beautiful trails.

The village has good amenities with a toboggan run, skating rink,
bowling alley, sports centre, swimming pool and fitness rooms. There are a few restaurants
and cafs. Night life is enjoyable, but not exactly wild, with Tyrolean evenings
and tea-dances. Families will enjoy this resort.
Because of its superb setting, this is a great area for summer
holidays, with many walking and cycling trails and boating on the lake.
To get the most from the skiing a car is pretty much essential.
The lift pass for the Achensee area costs 126 euro.
Access: Easy to reach with no likelihood of snow closures,
take exit 39 from the A12 motorway from Innsbruck to Munich (85 miles) and Salzburg
(97 miles). It's only 62 miles from Munich on the scenic route via Bad Wiessee,
a good road open except in the most severe conditions.
