Tignes is situated a
few kms above Val d'Isere approx 30 km from Bourg St Maurice and
130 km east of Chambery. Thanks to its unique situation Tignes has
a wonderful snow record with assured skiing 365 days per year. The
whole area, with the connection to Val d'Isere, is known as Espace
Killy which is one of the largest ski areas in the world. |
Tignes is a ski-in ski-out resort, and everything is geared to the sport.
Skiers and boarders are spoilt for choice with 9 slalom stadiums,
2 mogul stadiums and 2 snow parks.
There are 72 restaurants, 6 on the mountains, 57 bars,
4 discos, and cinema. Internet cafe in Val Claret and multimedia space in
Le Lac. Sports centre with tennis, squash, sauna, massage, gym.
Access: Geneva is the closest major international
airport, 103 miles away. Lyon is 137 miles or there is the smaller but closer
Chambery airport 81 miles away.
Rail users can get on high speed trains to Bourg St Maurice, the nearest
station to Tignes 18 miles away from where there is a coach service or taxis.
Road users should take the A430 motorway from Chambry towards Albertville
and then the dual carriageway to Moutiers. From there the N90 main road
leads to Boug St Maurice and then the D902 on up to Tignes. Driving time
from Calais is about 9.5 hours not counting stops. Chains or winter tyres
are necessary if it snows.
In Tignes itself the pedestrian has priority and car use is discouraged.
Indoor and outdoor parking for over 4000 vehicles is available, either at
a paying rate or if you park at Boisses, 2.5 miles from the resort centre,
parking is free.
A free shuttle bus service operates 24 hours a day, with a non-stop service
from 8.30am to 9pm, then regularly through the rest of the evening and night.
