Val Thorens is Europe's highest ski resort and part of the
enormous Trois Valles ski area. Set in a huge bowl surrounded by mountain
peaks and five glaciers, it boasts the best snow record and longest season
in the Alps. Every level and style of skiing is catered for, with the pistes
varying from wide gentle runs to bumpy moguls and deep powder. The huge ski
area is accessed by an excellent lift system, covered by three different
passes. With 8 snowparks around the ski area, boarders are equally well
catered for. The snowpark in the Caron area is wired for sound.
The village is traffic free, and has plenty to offer. The
sports centre has a swimming pool, sports centre and hammam, indoor tennis,
squash, a climbing wall and a roller-blade rink. Shopping is good and there
are plenty of restaurants, lively bars, concerts, clubs and discos. Although
tour operator ski parties are much in evidence, the resort is big enough to
be able to find some quieter apr ski entertainment.
