Wengen is one of the
most attractive of all the mountain resorts, perched on a sunny
shelf in the heart of the Jungfrau, with good access to all parts
of this region by means of the excellent network of cog railways,
lifts and cable cars that take you all over the Jungfrau ski region.
So whether it's winter skiing or summer walking or biking, this
area has it all. |
The town is car-free, which adds to its charm. After the
easy 10 mile drive from Interlaken, cars must be left in Lauterbrunnen (50
CHF per week in 2004, daily and hourly rates also available), where you
take the 15 minute ride on the cog railway to Wengen. At Wengen, electric
taxis wait to take you to your destination.
There's plenty to do in the town, with a good selection
of eateries, bars and cafs. There are 3 toboggan runs, horse-drawn sleigh
rides, dog-sledding, ice-climbing, an ice rink and curling. In the summer
enjoy the beautiful walks in the countryside around the town, with fantastic
views of the Jungfrau, or venture higher and follow the many well-marked
paths through the mountains on foot, horse or mountain bike.
The Jungfrau region comprises the ski areas of Grindelwald,
Wengen and Murren.
